Ministry Of Tourism
The role of the Ministry of Tourism is primarily
to formulate, define and review national, regional and local
tourism policies and development strategies that are consistent
with the overall objectives for sustain tourism growth in
Fiji. The Ministry is responsible for all socio-economic matters
in relation to specific sector studies, formulation and implementation
of sector strategies, policies and projects, development of
regulatory mechanisms for internalization of socio-economic
and environmental costs, generating tourism socio-economic
intelligence in all aspects tourism. Ensure the effective
and efficient allocation of resources and implementation of
National and Sectoral policies, Tourism Corporate Plans, Tourism
Master Plans and National Development Plans.
The functions of the ministry will include
the following:
- To devise
policy initiatives for tourism development.
- To facilitate
the development of tourism infrastructure.
- To coordinate
the activities of stakeholder agencies.
- To plan and
monitor the implementation of tourism development programs.
- To develop
and promote sustainable tourism policies and practices.
- To regularly
review and administer the Hotels Aid Act.
- To develop
awareness and encourage local participation in the industry.
- To coordinate
Human Resource Development in tourism.
- To monitor
the economic contribution of tourism to the national economy.
- To monitor
and improve policies and procedures governing the facilitation
of travel.
