Best Practice Ecotourism & Green Globe Benchmarking

Green Globe 21 International Ecotourism Standard Model aims to facilitate environmentally sustainable ecotourism. This standard for ecotourism products provides a basis for assessing a baseline environmental management performance standard for ecotourism products and recognizing best practice ecotourism.

Certification of the Standard helps to:

  • Provide ecotourism businesses with a benchmark of their performance and encourage continual improvement of their product.
  • Provide recognition and reward for best practice performance through the standard.
  • Protect local and global environmental quality.
  • Encourage contribution to local communities and conservation.
  • Improve profitability by being less wasteful and more efficient.

Green Globe covers many travel and tourism sectors including resorts, hotels, backpackers, ecotourism, golf courses, marinas, restaurants, cruise ships, dive operators, hire cars, coach tours, tour operators, railways, airlines and even airports.

The program was launched by the Minister for Tourism, Honorable Pita Nacuva on the 21st March, 2003 with the Ministry of Tourism and TPAF jointly sponsoring a series of five two-day training workshops for its awareness.
